PRESS RELEASE — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

– Kalpna Singh-Chitnis Awarded at the 30th Poseidonia–Paestum International Poetry Prize in Italy

Paestum, Italy — May 20, 2025 — Renowned Indian-American poet, filmmaker, and literary activist Kalpna Singh-Chitnis has been awarded First Prize (Foreign Poets Section) at the prestigious 30th Poseidonia–Paestum International Poetry Prize for her poem “Lipstick,” translated into Italian as “Il rossetto” by acclaimed Albanian-Italian poet and translator Irma Kurti.

The International Poetry Prize Poseidonia–Paestum is a distinguished literary award held annually in the historic archaeological setting of Paestum, in the Salerno province of Italy. The prize recognizes outstanding contributions to poetry on an international scale. The 2025 jury honored Singh-Chitnis for her poetic excellence and depth, selecting her work from a broad pool of international submissions.

“I sincerely thank the jury and the organizing committee of the Premio Internazionale di Poesia Poseidonia–Paestum for this meaningful recognition of my poetic work, and for inviting me to Italy to receive this award in a setting as rich in history and beauty as Paestum,” says Kalpna Singh-Chitnis.

Singh-Chitnis also extended her heartfelt thanks to Irma Kurti, who has translated several of her works and curated interviews for Italian and Albanian readers.

The official awards ceremony will take place on July 5, 2025, in the historic ruins of Paestum, with attendees from the political, cultural, and artistic spheres of Italy and abroad. Honorees will also participate in curated cultural experiences celebrating the region’s classical heritage and literary legacy. The awardees will be hosted by the Lions Club and Leo Club and enjoy generous hospitality at the grand Savoy Beach Hotel.
